Domestic Violence
and Restraining Orders
Domestic violence is not tolerated in Ontario:

Threatening, pushing, hitting, kicking, punching, stalking and harassment are crimes – being
married does not allow any of this.

Psychological or emotional abuse should not be tolerated but they are not considered crimes
under the Criminal Code of Canada

If you or your child(ren) are experiencing domestic violence there is help available – if you are
being physically or sexually assaulted call the police.

Emergency Court Appearances may be necessary to secure you and your family’s safety and
this falls under Family Law jurisdiction.  Talk to a lawyer about what you can do to protect
yourself and your child(ren).
